Men's Golf Tied for 10th at Sun Belt Championship

EL DORADO, Ark. – Expected to be one of the toughest courses to host the Sun Belt Conference Men's Golf Championship, Mystic Creek Golf Club lived up to its billing in Sunday's opening round of the league championship. Troy is one of three teams tied for 10th place on a course that saw golfers turn in an average card of 78.13 for the day.
Will McFadden and Brent Hamm were the lone Trojan golfers to shoot under the daily average as McFadden carded a 3-over 75 and Hamm is a shot behind at 4-over. The pair combined for Troy's three birdies on the day and are tied for 13th and 19th place respectively.
McFadden made the turn at even par with a birdie on the par-5 14th and then played the back nine at 3-over with a birdie on the par-4 third. Hamm birdied the par-4 second and played both sides of the course at 2-over.
No. 43 Georgia Southern holds a two-shot lead over ULM, which has the individual leader in Mickel Schmitt (6-under) from the No. 4 spot in the lineup. Little Rock and Arkansas State hold down the reminder of the top four with App State three shots back in fifth – the top four teams following three rounds will advance to match play. Troy shot 29-over on the day and is 15 shots back of a qualifying spot.
George Burch is tied for 47th place after shooting 82 on Sunday, while Nicklas Borrmann is tied for 51st place at 12-over and Reagan Harrell is 60th after shooting 18-over.
Troy will be in the trail group off No. 10 for Monday's second round with the first threesome teeing off at 9:15 a.m.
