Carles Anton named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week

TROY, Ala. – Troy men's tennis' Carles Anton was named the Sun Belt Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week after helping lead Troy to 4-1 road victory over Coastal Carolina this past weekend.

Anton earned player of the week honors after earning both a doubles and singles win over the weekend. In doubles, Anton teamed up with Amer Bedwan to earn a 6-4 decision. As a duo they have been nearly unbeatable this season, posting a 9-1 overall record and a perfect 4-0 mark in Sun Belt Conference play while winning eight consecutive matches.

In singles this past weekend, Anton played at the No. 2 spot where he earned a 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 victory. The win was his 15th of the season and seventh at the No. 2 spot.

Anton, who became the first Trojan men's tennis player since 2016 to be named the Sun Belt Player of the Week last season, is the first Trojan in 2021 to earn the honor. This was Anton's second career player of the week win with his last coming on Feb. 26, 2020.

Troy, who is 19-3 overall and 3-2 in the SBC, will be in action again April 23-25 when they compete in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. The event will be played in Peachtree City, Ga. at the Peachtree City Tennis Center. A bracket and match times will be released at a later date.
