THE WEEK THAT WAS (TROY- 10-10, 4-6 Sun Belt): The Trojans saw their four-game winning streak snapped last weekend against Georgia Southern. After winning on Tuesday against Spring Hill College (90-73) and Friday night (68-56) against the Eagles, the Trojans fell Saturday to Georgia Southern 79-64. The loss also snapped Troy's seven-game home winning streak and handed the Trojans their first home loss of the season. The week began with Tuesday's victory over Spring Hill. In that contest, Zay Williams scored 17 points and grabbed 15 rebounds while Desmond Williams contributed 15 points on 5-for-10 shooting. On Friday, freshman Duke Miles led the Trojans to a big 68-56 victory over the Eagles. After leading 27-20 at the break, the Trojans weathered a furious Eagles run that cut the Troy lead to just 31-28 with 18:55 to play. Miles scored 20 points, dished out eight helpers and grabbed five rebounds, while sophomore Jakevan Leftridge added nine clutch points including a corner-pocket here with 6:30 to play that gave the Trojans a 10 point lead. Senior Nick Stampley added 20 points and 11 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season. On Saturday the Eagles earned the weekend split, using 11 3-pointers to hand Troy its first home loss of the season. In that contest, Miles added a career-best 21 while Zay Williams scored 11 points to reach the 500-point mark.
THE WEEK THAT WAS (South Alabama- 12-8, 6-5 Sun Belt): South Alabama enters rivalry week having won four consecutive games overall including a mid-week matchup on Tuesday at Georgia State. The streak began with South's 62-48 victory over Georgia Southern back on Jan. 23. After seeing its weekend series with Georgia State two weeks ago postponed due to COVID-19 issues inside the Panthers program, South earned a weekend sweep over Coastal Carolina last weekend. On Friday night, Central Michigan transfer Michael Flowers and Tyreke Locure scored 28 and 20 points respectively for the Jags. The Jags defense was the key to victory, as South Alabama held prohibitive Sun Belt Player of the Year favorite DeVante' Jones to just 10 points. On Saturday, it was again the duo of Flowers and Locure who led the Jags to the weekend sweep. Flowers scored 20 points, while Locure added a game-high 22. On Tuesday, the Jags earned a crucial road victory at Georgia State. After seeing a 65-53 lead with 5:25 left erased with a late 12-0 State run that tied the contest at 65, South used a triple from Locure and a John Petttway dunk to hold on for the 70-67 victory. The key sequence in that contest was a held ball with 37 ticks to play that set up the Pettway dunk. So far this season, Flowers and Locure have led the way for the Jags, averaging 22.1 points and 14.8 points respectively. Flowers leads the Sun Belt in points and 3-pointers per game. The transfer is third in the conference in percentage and has hit a conference-best 67 triples. Flowers is currently tied four fourth in the nation in scoring with Davion Warren of Hampton.

The Bessemer, Ala. product currently is second on the 2020-21 Trojans roster in points (11.6), first in 3-pointers made (27) and second in total points scored (208). The freshman currently leads the Sun Belt in points among freshman and has scored at least 20 points in three of his last seven games. Woods has four total 20 point games. The Trojans were also 8-1 last season when holding an opponent to less than 40 percent shooting. Troy's win over Samford is the first time that Troy won when a team shot better than 40 percent from the field and scored more than 65 (1-3). So far this season Troy is 8-1 when holding a team below 65 points and 8-1 when holding teams to 40 percent shooting or less.
REP THE 'T'
Head coach Scott Cross preaches the mantra that the toughest team always wins. So far this season Troy has taken 53 total charges in 20 games.
