TROY, Ala. – Behind a double-double from Felmas Koranga, head coach Chanda Rigby notched her 400th career win after downing Bethune-Cookman, 84-58, Thursday night in Trojan Arena.
Koranga led the Trojans (3-1) tallying 16 points and 19 boards, just three shy of her single-game high. Rigby garnered her 400th career win and 171st as the head coach of the Trojans.
After being uncharacteristically outrebounded in back-to-back contests, Troy dominated the glass, outrebounding Bethune-Cookman, 68-35.
For the Wildcats (1-3), Morgan Beacham paced the squad with a team-high 19 points and six rebounds.
How It Happened
The Trojans and Wildcats battled wire-to-wire in the opening quarter of action with neither side gaining more than a three-point advantage.
Bethune-Cookman's Morgan Beacham banked a layup to give the Wildcats their largest lead of the quarter with just 24 seconds left, but a pair of made free throws from Tiyah Johnson cut the deficit to one heading into the second.
The story of the second quarter looked much like the first with Troy's largest lead (three points) coming with 1:36 left to play off a pair of free throws by Jasmine Robinson.
However, the Trojans came out guns a blazing in the third. Sparked by a layup from Jhileiya Dunlap, Troy held the Wildcats scoreless for the first four minutes of action to take a 47-33 lead. A pair of layups from Ja'Mia Hollings and Johnson gave the Trojans a 59-43 lead heading into the final 10 minutes.
Troy inflated their fourth-quarter advantage to as many as 26 points. Powered by Amber Leggett, Troy closed out the matchup on a 6-0 run.
Quotable – Head Coach Chanda Rigby
"We knew we needed to rebound better. We answered the bell and really did a good job on the boards tonight. I also knew we needed to get our newcomers comfortable with our system. The next two games on the road are really tough with Missouri and Duke. We have been playing really fragmented and thinking too hard. I wanted them to quit thinking and just play basketball, and they really did that in the second half."
