TROY, Ala. – Behind goals from Kate Eubanks and Jordan Stack, Troy Soccer downed Coastal Carolina, 2-0, Sunday afternoon at the Troy Soccer Complex.
The match kickstarted with a first-half defensive showdown. Both squads combine for just nine shots through the opening 45 minutes of play, only two of which were on goal.
However, Troy (6-8-2, 3-5-0 Sun Belt) broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute when Lisa Blankestein fired a cross into the box that Nia Wilson was able to knock down and set up Kate Eubanks for her first goal of the season.
Allison Worley drew a foul just five minutes later to set up a free kick for Jordan Stack. In her first start of the season, the sophomore lined up to take the free kick for the Trojans and sent the ball right past Coastal Carolina (5-7-2, 3-4-1 Sun Belt) goalie Ky Hudson.
Trojan goalkeeper Lindsey LaRoche recorded a save on the Chanticleer's lone shot on goal to pick up her sixth career clean sheet.
Quotable – Head Coach Nicole Waters
"In the first half, we came out very steady. I gave a couple of people the opportunity to make their first start of the season, including Jordan Stack, who scored our second goal today, and I think that gave our team a lot of energy. We have always been a really good second-half team. We were a little unlucky with several shots hitting the crossbar and the post, but regardless, it is always exciting to get the shutout at home."
