TROY, Ala. – Troy Soccer dropped a Senior Night 1-0 heartbreaker to the conference-leading Arkansas State Red Wolves in overtime Friday at the Troy Soccer Complex.
Troy (6-9-1, 3-6-0 Sun Belt) remained anchored defensively, holding Arkansas State (10-4-2, 7-1-1 Sun Belt) to its third-fewest shot attempts inside league action.
Nia Wilson broke into the open field following a Red Wolves shot attempt, getting a one-on-one look but couldn't fire the shot past goalkeeper Megan McClure in the 14th minute.
Jordan Stack looked to give the Trojans the advantage late in the opening half but couldn't find the back of the net, sending the match into the half scoreless.
After a hard-fought defensive battle in the first 45, Troy's offense came out in the second half firing on all cylinders. The Trojans put up 11 shot attempts, four of which were on goal, in the final 45 minutes of regulation, but the defensive dual sent the match into overtime.
Arkansas State's Sarah Strong connected with Rachel Kutella for the golden-goal header in the final minute of overtime.
Quotable – Head Coach Nicole Waters
"Tonight was Senior Night, and I think the emotions that come with playing for those four seniors played a part in how hard we fought in the counterattack. We battled the entire match and put up one of the highest amounts of shots we have all year."
