TROY, Ala. – Troy soccer extended its unbeaten streak to four matches with a 1-1 draw against ULM on a brisk Saturday night in Troy.
First-year Aiden Bailey provided the scoring for the Trojans (3-8-4, 2-3-2 SBC), netting her first career goal in the 17th minute.
Goalkeeper Taylor Richards made six saves, bringing her season total to 75.
ULM (4-10-2, 1-5-1 SBC) held a 14-shot advantage, with Rylee Methvin scoring the Warhawks' lone goal just before halftime.
Troy created the first opportunity of the match when Alaina Uncapher fired a shot high in the fourth minute. Uncapher led the Trojans with four shots on the night.
The opening goal came off a corner kick, as a scrum developed inside the six-yard box before the ball fell to Bailey, who fired a left-footed shot into the back of the net.
The goal marked the third consecutive match in which Troy scored at least once in the first half.
ULM equalized in the 44th minute when Angela Morena's shot was deflected by Richards, allowing Methvin to fire the rebound into the net from just inches away.
Neither team found the net in the second half, but both sides generated opportunities.
Layla Juliano recorded one of Troy's two second-half shots on goal, forcing ULM goalkeeper Jen Handy to make a save on a shot from outside the box in the 60th minute.
Madisyn Marchesi played a key role in the Trojan defense throughout the match. As ULM's pressure mounted in the second half, Marchesi led the back line with key clearances and strong marking to keep the Warhawks at bay and help secure the draw.
Quotable – Head Coach Jake Wyman
"Tremendous effort from our squad and ULM tonight. I think the game kind of changed throughout each half. I thought we started the first half well but had a bit of an error on the goal we conceded at the end of the half. In the second half, we gave ourselves a few chances and opportunities to score the game winner; it just never came. I know we didn't play as well as we could've, but it's a sign of a good team when you don't play well and you find a way to get yourself a point against the defending league champions."
