Trojans Open Outdoor Track Season at Jaguar Opener

TROY, Ala. -- The Troy Trojans men's and women's outdoor track and field program opens the 2020 outdoor season Friday at the Jaguar Opener.

Hosted by South Alabama, the meet will feature 11 total teams including Alabama A&M, Albany State, Alcorn State, Jacksonville State, Lane College, Mercer, Mobile, Stillman College and Talladega College.
Â
Set to begin at 2 p.m. Friday afternoon, the event gets started with the field events highlighted by the triple jump and shot put.
Â
The attention then shifts to the track as the women's 100 M hurdles kicks-off the track portion of the meet at 5 p.m.
Â
Other highlights include the 800m, 3,000m and the 4x400m relay teams.

The Trojans women's program just concluded one of the most successful indoor seasons in program history.
Â
Highlighted by a second-place finish at the Sun Belt Conference Championships and a program record 89 total team points, Gemma Finch (1st place 800m), Tanner Guest (2nd place 800m) and the rest of the Trojans roster looks to build on a strong winter season this spring.

On the men's side, sprinters Hakim Montgomery and Matthew Likely look to close out their final season in a Trojan uniform strong. A 2019 NCAA qualifier in the 200m, Likely looks to improve on last year's strong outdoor season.

Following this weekend's meet at South Alabama, the Trojans won't return to competition until Mar. 20-21, when they travel to Tampa for the Bulls Invitational hosted by the University of South Florida.
