MOBILE, Ala. -- The Troy Trojans men's and women's track and field programs opened the 2020 outdoor track season Friday at the Jaguar Opener hosted by Sun Belt Conference rival South Alabama.
Highlighted by strong performances from Amaya Anderson (2:23.88) and Martin Bouldo (1:57.53) who each won the 800m, the Trojans won five different events and placed second in two different events.
Other winners for troy included Sydney Singletary (1:07.29) who won the women's 400m hurdles besting Dejana Chapman (1:10.74) from Alabama A&M by nearly four seconds.
On the men's side Jakyryn Davis also took home a first place finish for the Trojans in the long jump turning in an impressive 6.8m score, while Jordan Wallace posted the top score in the triple jump.
In the track events, freshman Ines Garcia continued to impress in her first season as a Trojan, as Garcia finished second (15.06) in the 100m hurdles tonight.
We had some good things happen today," Director Marc Davis said. "Some of the men haven't competed yet this season so tonight's meet was a chance to get their feet wet and shake the rust off. Now we start the season. We have a lot of tough competitions coming up, and there are no easy meets on our schedule the rest of the season. I'm looking forward to the ride."
Troy will take next weekend off for spring break, and will next return to action Mar. 20-21 at the Bulls Invitational hosted by the University of South Florida.
