Pelayo Antuna Named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week

TROY, Ala. – Troy men's tennis' Pelayo Antuna was named the Sun Belt Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week after helping lead Troy to a perfect 3-0 weekend at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
Antuna, who becomes the second Trojan in as many weeks to be named the player of the week, earned his first career player of the week honor after going 2-0 at No. 1 singles, 1-0 at the No. 1 doubles and 2-0 at No. 2 doubles in Troy's three matches this past weekend.
After a slow start to the dual season Antuna has found his groove, posting a 6-2 record over his last eight singles matches, including a three-match winning streak. On the year he has earned an 8-4 dual record, all at the No. 1 singles spot, with an even more impressive 13-1 dual record in doubles matches. In doubles this season Antuna has been paired with Carles Anton, last week's Sun Belt Player of the Week, and the duo has posted a 13-1 doubles record going 2-0 in the top spot, with a 7-1 record at No. 2 and a perfect 4-0 record at No. 3.
After having not earned a Sun Belt Player of the Week honor since March 16, 2016 before last week, Troy has now earned back-to-back player of the week awards.
Troy takes its 10-4 record, and 5-match winning streak, on the road this Friday when the Trojans travel to Jackson, Miss. to take on Jackson State. First serves on Friday are scheduled for 2 p.m.
