2/8/2020 5:42:00 PM | Basketball (W)
LAFAYETTE, La. – Troy women's basketball was tested on the road Saturday afternoon, earning a hard-fought 67-64 victory over Louisiana. The win avenges Troy's only Sun Belt loss of the season and improves the Trojans record to 19-3 overall and 10-1 in the Sun Belt Conference.
For the second time this season Troy and Louisiana went back-and-forth from the opening tip, with neither team being able to grab ahold of the game and put the other team away. Troy led the game for over 35 minutes but Louisiana never went away. In the contest there were six ties with 10 lead changes, eight of those lead changes came in the fourth-quarter. The Trojans largest lead of the game was just nine, earned in the first couple seconds of the third-quarter, while Louisiana's largest lead was just two, earned late in the third-quarter. After winning the first time two quarters by a combined seven points, Troy was outscored by two points in each of the final two quarters.
After scoring 19-points in the opening quarter Troy struggled offensively in the second-quarter, scoring just 10-points, their lowest scoring output in any quarter this season. Although the offense struggled, Troy's defense was the key to their success on Saturday, holding Louisiana to just six points in the second and 34 percent shooting from the field for the game. The Trojans held Louisiana's leading scorer, Ty'Reona Doucet to just 10-points in 32-minutes of action.
After shooting above 43 percent in back-to-back games the Trojans shot just 37 percent against Louisiana on 26-of-70 shooting from the field but found more success behind-the-arc. From deep Troy shot 40 percent, making six of the 20 triples they took. Harriet Winchester was a big reason Troy shot 40 percent from deep as she went 3-for-4. Alexus Dye had another impressive game, posting a game-high 18-points, her second-straight game with at least 16, while grabbing 10 rebounds. Dye's double-double was her team-best fifth of the season, the most for a single player in one season since Sky'Lynn Holmes earned five during the 2017-18 season. Kayla Robinson also hit some big shots late, hitting back-to-back buckets directly following Louisiana scores to keep the momentum with Troy. Robinson ended with 10-points. Jasmine Robinson scored just six points on Saturday but hit two clutch free throws late in the game to help Troy ice the game.

On the big road win at Louisiana
"It's a huge win and we needed a close game that came down to the last position. I'm just really thankful. It's so hard to win over in the Cajundome. I'm proud of the team. They gave a great defensive effort."
On Kayla Robinson's playing well off the bench
"I'm so glad she showed up in this moment because we really needed her. There have been so many time throughout her career that she has done things similar to this. She just keeps hitting tough shots when we need it. She came through with it tonight and I'm just so proud of her."
