Troy Softball Opens 2020 Slate Hosting the Trojan Classic

TROY, Ala. – The Troy softball team opens the 2020 season playing host to Lipscomb, Western Kentucky, College of Charleston and North Florida in the Trojan Classic this weekend at the Troy Softball Complex.

The Trojans open up play on Friday at 3 p.m. against Lipscomb followed by a 5:30 p.m. game against College of Charleston. Admission is free for all games.

In their sixth year under head coach Beth Mullins, Troy looks to build upon a record-breaking 2019 season where they posted a program record 19 conference wins and held a program best 14-game win streak.

The 2019 Sun Belt Freshman of the Year and first team all-conference selection, Leanna Johnson, returns to the circle for Troy. Johnson ended last season's campaign with 231 strikeouts, 25 victories and seven shutouts. She ranked 17th in victories and 25th in strikeouts nationally.

Troy also returns their offensive leader, Katie Webb, who was tabbed a member of the Preseason All-Conference team. The senior was the only Trojan to start all 57 games last season and led the team in batting average with a .355 mark and in multi-hit games with 19.

Know Your Foes
- Lipscomb begins their season at the Trojan Classic after going 42-15 a year ago. The Bison won the A-Sun conference last season to earn themselves an NCAA Regional birth.
- Western Kentucky enters the Trojan Classic after a 37-13 season last year. The Hilltoppers return their leader inside the circle, Kennedy Sullivan, who picked up 16 wins with a 3.14 ERA last season.
- College of Charleston arrives in Troy after a 26-30 2019 season. The Trojans lead the series with the Cougars, 1-0.
- North Florida checks into the Trojan Classic after going 30-24 a year ago. The Trojans trails 5-8 in the series.Â
