TROY, Ala. – Leanna Johnson fanned 14 batters to lead Troy to a shutout victory over Lipscomb, 2-0, before the Trojans downed College of Charleston, 8-3, in the second game of the Trojan Classic on Saturday.

Leanna Johnson (1-0) turned in her eighth double-digit strikeout game of her career in the win over Lipscomb (1-1) while Kelly Horne's two-run home run ignited the Trojan (2-0) offense to power Troy past College of Charleston (0-2) in the nightcap.

Game One: Troy 2, Lipscomb 0
Leanna Johnson picked up the win after sitting down 14 batters and giving up just three hits in seven innings of work during the season opener.

The game remained a pitcher's duel until the bottom of the sixth inning. A pair of singles by Horne and Mia Jenkins set Katie Lively up for a single to score the first run of the game.

Katelynn de Leon followed with a sacrifice fly to extend Troy's lead.

Lipscomb lead off the bottom of the seventh with a single, but three consecutive outs solidified Troy's first win of the season.

Emily Yakubowski (0-1) suffered the loss for the Bison after giving up two runs off six hits and a hit by pitch in five innings of work.

Game Two: Troy 8, College of Charleston 3
With the game tied 2-2 in the bottom of the third, Horne blasted a two-run home run to ignite the Trojan offense in route to their victory over Charleston.

Troy struck first in the bottom of the first inning with back-to-back doubles by Katie Webb and Kelly Horne.

College of Charleston answered in the top of the third when Noel Dominguez singled to score Jenna Carter who reached on an error.

Horne's home run sparked the Trojan offense in the bottom of the third leading to Troy tacking on four more runs in the bottom of the fourth with hits by Logan Calhoun and Webb.

The Cougars scored in the top of the seventh, but Troy's lead was too much to overcome.

Libby Baker (1-0) earned the first win of her career with two strikeouts in four innings of work while Summer Jenkins (0-1) suffered the loss for the Cougars giving up four runs in three innings.

Katie Webb led the Trojans offensively going 3-for-5 with three RBI.
Leanna Johnson's 14 strikeouts is the most since she threw her career-high 16 against Appalachian State on April 19 last season.

Troy returns to action tomorrow in day two of the Trojan Classic where they take on Western Kentucky at 2 p.m. and Lipscomb at 4:30 p.m. at the Troy Softball Complex.
