TROY, Ala. – Troy women's basketball improved to 18-3 on the year and 9-1 in the Sun Belt Conference with its 77-65 victory over ULM Wednesday night. The victory improves upon their program best start this season and keeps them alone atop the Sun Belt standings.
The Trojans, ranked 16th in the latest College Insider Mid-Major Top 25 poll, had a strong showing Wednesday night against the Warhawks, shooting 43 percent on 29-of-67 shooting. They were led offensively by Alexus Dye who scored a team-high 16 points while grabbing six boards. Her 16 points are the second-most she has scored this season behind her 21-points against Jacksonville State. Japonica James finished second in scoring with 14 while Kayla Robinson and Jasmine Robinson scored 11 and 10 respectively. James led the team in rebounds with eight while also going 4-of-6 from the free throw line. As a team the Trojans grabbed 49 rebounds, their lowest total since grabbing 47 against Louisiana back on Jan. 11.
On the defensive end Troy had to battle a hot shooting ULM team from the get go. The Warhawks shot 38 percent from the field on 26-of-68 shooting and made seven 3-pointers, it's the second time they have done that against the Trojans this season. ULM's Amber Thompson scored a game-high 20-points on 8-of-20 shooting from the field and 2-of-5 from 3-point land. ULM outscored the Trojans in the third-quarter 19-18.
For the second time this season the ULM Warhawks gave the Trojans everything they could handle. Troy struggled to build consistent momentum as every run the Trojans had was quickly matched by one from the Warhawks. Troy's largest run in the game was an 8-0 run that happened at the midway through the first-quarter. They eventually grabbed their largest lead of the game of 14-points with just over a minute left in the game.
Records
Troy: 18-3 (9-1 SBC)
ULM: 3-18 (1-9 SBC)

On the overall outcome of the game
"We are definitely glad to get the win against a good ULM team that had a good game plan. They slowed the ball down drastically against us in the first-half and we allowed it. We tried to be safe on defense and not allow them to get what they wanted to get but we were so slow and the game was so slow. In the second-half we tried to speed things up, do a little trapping and that was the first time we got a little bit of separation."
