TROY, Ala. – The Troy men's tennis team earned its fourth straight victory Thursday afternoon with a hard fought, come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Chattanooga. The victory improves the Trojans record to 9-4 on the year.
For the second straight day Troy earned the crucial doubles point. After Christopher Tasker and Andy Ronero earned the first doubles victory with their 6-2 decision it came down to who finished first between courts one and three. Pelayo Antuna and Carles Anton on court one did what they needed to down the stretch to earn the close 7-6 victory and seal the doubles point for Troy.
In singles Troy had all it could handle from Chattanooga. Antuna was the first to finish on court one with an easy straight set win to give a 2-0 lead in the match. The lead didn't last long as Chattanooga went on to claim three straight victories on court five, six and two and take a 3-2 advantage in the match. Troy never wavered once the going got tough as the senior leadership from Oskar Michalek took over on court three. Michalek won his first set 6-2 before dropping set two 3-6. With his back against the wall in the decisive set Michalek gutted out a 6-4 victory to tie the match at three all. With all eyes on him and in the biggest moment of his young career, freshman Javier Llinares had to win back-to-back sets after dropping the opening set, 5-7. Llinares didn't look like a freshman on Friday coming back to take set two 6-2 and then earning the hard fought 7-5 victory in the third set to clinch the match for Troy.
