TROY, Ala. – Coming off a fall season that featured a pair of victories, the Troy women's golf team opens its spring season Monday and Tuesday at the Amelia Island Collegiate at the Amelia Island Country Club.
Paced by one of the best falls in school history from sophomore Nicole Lorup, the Trojans posted an 8.29 score vs. par as a team with wins at the Chris Banister Golf Classic and Town & Country Invitational.
Lorup picked up a pair of individual titles in the fall while sophomore transfer ShaeLee Scarberry also recorded an individual win. Lorup finished the spring with a 72.29 stroke average and 0.57 score vs. par with four rounds under par, including a 7-under 65 at the Palmetto Intercollegiate.
"Our expectations are really high heading into the spring," head coach Randy Keck said. "We've been stuck indoors more than we'd like because of the weather, but we're heading south hunting for a win. We've really worked on our fitness level – it can really help you mentally and physically at the end of these three-round tournaments and can give you a mental advantage because you go in thinking you're tougher than everyone else."
Freshman Elisabeth Preus added a pair of top 10 finishes and closed out the fall second among the Trojans with a 2.07 score vs. par with a pair of rounds under par. Scarberry ended the fall strong with her victory followed by a team-best seventh place finish in the final event; she ended the fall with a 74.74 average.
Anna Claire Little was responsible for Troy's second-lowest round of the fall with a 68, and she closed out the opening half of the schedule with a 76.72 average, while Judith Castro posted a 76.21 mark over 14 rounds.
