FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. – Nicole Lorup fired a pair of under-par rounds and sits in third place to lead Troy following Monday's opening two rounds of the Amelia Island Collegiate at the Amelia National Golf Club. Troy is in seventh place in the 15-team field and is just eight shots from fourth.
Lorup, who had four rounds in the red during the fall, shot a 2-under 70 in the opening round and followed with a 1-under 71 in the second round. She is six shots off the pace heading into Tuesday's final round after carding eight birdies on the opening day of play.
Starting on No. 8, Lorup birided her second hole of the day and ran her card to 2-under with a birdie on the 17th. However, a double-bogey on the par-4 fourth pushed her card to even. She ended the round with back-to-back birdies to finish with the 70. Lorup's second round was similar with four more birdies around a trio of bogeys.
Troy shot 9-over in the second round – five shots better than its first round – to move up a pair of spots into seventh place at the end of the day. Florida Gulf Coast is 7-under as a team to lead the field.
Elisabeth Preus and Anna Claire Little are tied for 45th place at 8-over following Monday's action. Preus finished with four birdies on the day – three in the second round – and Little added five birdies over her two rounds.
ShaeLee Scarberry is two shots back of her teammates in a tie for 52nd place after matching rounds of 77 with three birdies while Judith Castro is tied for 76th place.
Troy will be paired with Lipscomb and Georgia State, both of which are just a shot behind the Trojans, for Tuesday's final round. All teams will hit the course at 7 a.m. for the shotgun start.
