Lance Johnson Named to Stopper of the Year Watch List

Stopper of the Year Watch List
TROY, Ala. – Troy senior pitcher Lance Johnson has been placed on the preseason Stopper of the Year watch list, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association announced Monday. The award, which is given annually to the best relief pitcher in NCAA Division I, includes 70 pitchers from around the country.
"Lance definitely deserves to be included on this watch list," head coach Mark Smartt said. "He begins his senior year with the experience and maturity to handle any game situation he may encounter. He's been in most every bullpen situation possible the last three years and I'm confident he'll be one of the best relievers in the country in 2020."
Johnson made 36 appearances in 2019, all out of the bullpen, which tied for the fifth-most nationally and was the second-most in a single season in Troy history. The right-hander posted a team-best 2.80 ERA en route to a 4-2 record on the season.
The Alabaster, Ala., native fanned 39 batters in 54 innings in 2019 and was named to the Sun Belt All-Tournament team after allowing just one earned run and three hits over his six innings at the tournament.
Johnson and the Trojans will open the 2020 campaign with a four-game series against Northern Kentucky beginning Friday, Feb. 14 at 6 p.m. Season tickets are still available for purchase at TroyTrojans.com/Tickets or by contacting the Troy Ticket Office at (334) 670-3681.
