TROY, Ala. – The 2020-21 Troy women's basketball team etched its name into the program record book as they set a new program record for points in a game with 131 in their convincing, 131-57 victory over LaGrange College Monday night.
Six Trojans scored in double-figures, led by a career-high 30 from Tiyah Johnson. Preseason All-Sun Belt First Team honoree Alexus Dye added 20 while Tyasia Moore scored 15. A Trio of freshman also left their mark on the stat sheet as Janiah Ellis scored 15 followed by 13 from Sharonica Hartsfield and 10 from Samira Moore. Hartsfield's final two points of the night gave Troy its record setting 131st point.
LaGrange was led by 16 points from Alerriya Butler, while Jahpera McEachin added 12 points, five assists and four steals.
Troy started slow, falling behind 2-6 in the first three minutes of the contest before a game-changing 16-0 run that spanned the final two minutes of the first quarter and the first four minutes of the second to put the Trojans in control. The run was sparked by Johnson and Alexus Dye who each scored 6 points during that stretch.
After the two clubs traded buckets to open the second-half the Trojans again went on a massive run, this time it was a 43-12 run that started at the five-minute mark of the third quarter and went until the five-minute mark of the fourth. During that run, Dominique Camp connected on a layup with 34 seconds left in the third period to put Troy over the century mark for the 23rd time under head coach Chanda Rigby.
Troy outscored LaGrange 108-38 in the final three frames of the night, holding the Panthers to just eight points total in the fourth quarter.
The Trojans shot 63 percent from the field (30-47) and 67 percent from behind-the-arc (10-15) and made 17-of-29 foul shots. Troy also won the rebounding battle 52-33 and had 28 assists with 24 steals.
