Men's Tennis Opens Spring Season at AUM on Friday

TROY, Ala. – The Troy's men's tennis team will begin its 2020 dual match season on Friday, Jan. 18 when they travel to AUM. The match is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. at the AUM Tennis Complex.

The Trojans are coming off a strong fall season where they played in five different tournaments, compiling a 33-23 singles record. Freshman Carles Anton posted an impressive 5-2 singles record, including a tournament championship at Chattanooga. Pelayo Antuna and Oskar Michalek tied for the team-high in singles wins with seven each.

Troy and AUM will be meeting for the second consecutive season. In last years matchup Troy defeated AUM 6-1, earning wins at No. 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 Singles while also winning the doubles point.

A Look at AUM
• AUM is coming off a season where they posted a 13-6 overall record with an 8-2 conference record
• They ended the year winning nine of their final 10 matches, including the last four of the season
• AUM is coached by Yair Banuelos who is in his third year leading the program
• Their roster is made up of one senior, two juniors and four freshmen

A 2019 Quick Review
• Troy posted a 17-8 overall record last season including a 1-7 mark in the Sun Belt Conference. Troy improved their win total by four matches from the previous season
• The Trojans found a lot of success on the road a season ago posting a 9-3 record in road match. At home they were also impressive, going 6-3
• Troy earned a spot in the SBC Tournament as the No. 7 seed. In the opening round of the tournament Troy fell to eventual champion, No. 2 seed South Alabama
