Late Goal Barrage Pushes Troy to 3-1 Victory at Southern

BATON ROUGE, La. -- The Troy University Trojans behind a three-goal outburst in the second-half defeated Southern University 3-1 at Jaguar Park Friday evening.

After not finding the back of the net in the first-half, the Trojans (4-1-2) attack came to life, scoring three times in a 20-minute span.

In the 56th minute, Alisa Detlefsen delivered a perfect corner kick that Noelle Golden was able to re-direct into the back of the net to give the road team the lead.

After the Jaguars (0-4) tied the match in the 69^th minute, Kiersten Edlund slotted a perfect ball to a streaking Kate Lorenz who dribbled around the Southern keeper to give Troy the lead in the 76^th minute. Just three minutes later, it was Edlund again who sparked the Trojans attack, as her perfect corner found Kate Eubanks who powered a shot into the net.

Troy returns to action on Sunday afternoon for the non-conference finale at Jacksonville. Kickoff from Southern Oak Stadium is set for 4 p.m.

"Tonight was certainly a tale of two halves. I was extremely disappointed with our performance in the first half, but I'm glad we were able to ultimately turn it on in the second half. We're still trying to find a way to put together a complete 90-minute effort. We've shown glimpses this season, but overall we need to be more consistent if we want to reach our goals. Obviously, it's easier to teach these lessons after a victory. Hopefully we can go out on Sunday and turn in a complete performance."

NOTEWORTHY:
• Tonight was the first ever matchup between Southern and Troy.
• The Trojans have now outscored opponents 10-2 in the second half this season.
• With tonight's victory, the Trojans are just one win away from tying last season's output.
• Edlund's two assists were her third and fourth of the season.
• Combined with her three goals, the senior now has tied a career-high with 10 points.
• A victory on Sunday would give Troy five non-conference victories. The five victories would be the most non-conference wins for the Trojans since 2015 when the Trojans went 7-2 in the non-conference.
