TROY, Ala. – The Troy University Trojans continue the longest road trip of the season this weekend, traveling to Southern University Friday afternoon before finishing the weekend at Jacksonville Sunday.
The weekend features a pair of games against unfamiliar opponents, as the Trojans will face Southern for the first time and will face-off against Jacksonville for just the second time.
Coming off the first loss of the season on Sunday at Auburn, the Trojans enter the weekend with a record of 3-1-2 through the first six matches, having outscored teams 13-7 so far.
Senior Kiersten Edlund has paced the Troy attack thus far, recording three goals and two assists. The Florida native, who saw her three-match point streak snapped at Auburn, has recorded a point in four of the six matches this season.
In goal, senior Haleigh Mercer has found her stride, recording a goal-against-average of 1.11 in her six starts. Her 37 saves are the most in Sun Belt Conference thus far and are a new career-best.

SOUTHERN LIVING:
The Southern University Jaguars enter Friday's matchup with the Trojans looking for the programs first victory since last Oct. 12. Offensively, Cordney Armstong has recorded the lone tally for the Jaguars this season, who have been outscored 13-1 thus far. Sophomore Chioma Eriken was named the 2019 SWAC Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year after leading the nation in saves (165) a season ago.
FLIPPING OUT:
The Jacksonville Dolphins enter the weekend also searching for the program's first victory of 2019. So far this season, the Dolphins have been outscored 15-2 and have allowed 89 total shots. Both of the JU goals have been scored by freshman Olivia Abdallah. The Dolphins have used two different goalies so far this season, as Michelle Jerantowski and Kristian Shores have shared goalkeeper duties.
HIT THE ROAD GED:
Last Sunday's matchup at Auburn was the first of five consecutive road matchups for the Trojans. In total, Troy will go 23 days between home matchups. Following this weekend's games, Troy begins Sun Belt Conference plays with a pair of games at Appalachian State and Costal Carolina.
SECOND HALF SUCCESS:
Troy has been an extremely successful team following intermission this season, outscoring opponents 7-1 in the second half.
BALANCED ATTACK:
Seven different players have recorded a goal this season for Troy, while 11 different players have recorded at least one point. After scoring 18 total goals in 2018, the Trojans have tallied 13 goals through six matches.
GED TALKS:
"We're looking forward to another great opportunity to pick-up two wins this weekend. It's an important trip for the girls to continue to bond and get to know each other as teammates. But it's also important because it's going to mirror conference games where we play two road matches in a short period that require a lot of travel. We're hopeful of getting the wins this weekend, but we're also focusing on playing 90 complete minutes of soccer. That is one of the things we're concentrating on. We played great for 45 minutes against Jacksonville State and Auburn but now we really need to play great for entire game."
On Friday's match at Southern
"Friday is going to be a very difficult encounter for us. It's a tough game because of the location and the environment. We really do not know a ton about Southern. With that being said, we need to prepare properly for the long trip. We need to take care of us, and then we can focus on the game."
On Sunday's matchup at Jacksonville:
"Then we need to drive a long distance to get to Jacksonville for Sunday for another tough game. The coaching staff is brand-new there, but we know the caliber of both coaches and the program they are building. It's going to be important for us to focus on the little things this weekend to be able to take care of business."
