Tully Strike Pushes Troy to 1-0 Victory at Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Troy University Trojans finished non-conference action in style Sunday afternoon defeating Jacksonville University 1-0 at Southern Oak Stadium.
Freshman Caroline Tully scored the golden-goal just three minutes and 39 seconds into the first overtime period. With the victory, Troy (5-1-2) equaled its win total from a season ago and improved to 3-1-1 this season on the road.

Freshman Gabrielle Cossette (two saves) and Haleigh Mercer (three saves) combined to record the Trojans third clean-sheet of the season, while senior Kiersten Edlund recorded three shots.

The Trojans return to action Friday evening for the Sun Belt Conference opener at Appalachian State. Kickoff from Boone is scheduled for 6 p.m.

NOTEWORTHY:
• Sunday was Troy's third overtime game of the season, with the previous two ending in a draw.
• The Trojans are now outscoring opponents 17-8 this season.
• Troy has outscored its opponents 11-2 in the second half and overtime this season.
• With tonight's goal the Trojans have now scored 17 goals through the first eight matches.
• The Trojans five non-conference victories are the programs most since 2015, when Troy went 7-2 in non-conference play.
• Tully's goal was her first career goal. The freshman previously recorded her first career point against Stetson (8/30).
