Walk-Off Powers Troy Past South Alabama

Kaylee Hussey hit the walk-off single up the middle in the bottom of the tenth inning to clinch the second seed heading into the conference tournament next week.

Troy (36-18, 18-8 Sun Belt) struck first in the bottom of the third when Katie Webb singled up the middle to score Madeline Porter who got on after being hit by a pitch.

The Jaguars (18-30, 7-19) answered in top of the fourth with a two-out two-run long ball by Katelyn Gruich, but the Trojans took the lead again after scoring in the bottom of the fourth and fifth inning.

South Alabama regained the lead with another two-out two-run home run by Dayla Gulledge sending the game into the bottom of the seventh.

Katie Lively hit a sacrifice fly to score Grace Mirly, who pinch ran for Hussey after hitting a double to lead off the inning, to send the game into extra innings.

Both teams remained silent until Hussey score Talia Truitt who led off the inning with a bunt single in the bottom of the tenth.

Alexis Reid (10-17) suffered the loss for South Alabama giving up one run, three hits, three walks and a hit by pitch in 2.1 innings of work.

Leanna Johnson (25-7) earned the win fanning 13 batters and scattering six hits in 10 innings of work.

The series finale is set to start at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Troy's six seniors will be honored during pregame.Â

- With tonight's win, Troy clinches the second seed heading into the Sun Belt Conference tournament next week.
- Kaylee Hussey's walk-off marks her third walk-off hit of the season. Hussey hit a walk-off double in extra innings against UT Arlington and a walk-off home run against Alabama State.
- Leanna Johnson's 13 strikeouts is her third highest single-game total this season. Johnson fanned 16 batters against Appalachian State and 14 against both Eastern Illinois and Villanova.
