Troy Hands Out Top Awards at Fifth Annual Trojan Tribute

TROY, Alabama – Troy student-athletes, administrators and coaches joined together Wednesday night in Trojan Arena to recognize the best Troy Athletics has to offer both on the field and in the classroom at the fifth annual Trojan Tribute.

Awards were handed out in 17 different categories ranging from strength & conditioning honors, to top grade-point-averages and #OneTROY Team of the Year. The awards, which were based on the 2018 calendar year (Spring 2018, Fall 2018, Winter 2018-19), were voted on by members of Troy's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and the Trojan Tribute Senior Voting Committee.

The premier individual award of the evening, the Trojan Way Leadership Award, was presented to softball senior Stephanie Snyder. Top academic honors went to Madeline Porter (softball), Kiara Barrett (Volleyball) and Daniel Glick (track & field), while softball earned the Female Team GPA Award and cross country took home Male Team GPA honors.

The Troy women's indoor track & field team took home #OneTROY Team of the Year honors after they claimed three gold medals and finished third at the championship with 81 points – the highest finish and point total in program history.
Male Athlete of the Year honors were split between Joey Denison and Damion Willis, while Sky'Lynn Holmes took home Female Athlete of the Year honors.

Denison earned three different All-America honors following the 2018 season in which he set a new school single-season RBI record with 81, while leading the conference and ranking second nationally in the category. The senior recorded 91 hits – seventh in the country – which is the fourth-most by any player in school history.Â

Willis led the conference in catches of 40-plus yards and 30-plus yards; ranked ninth nationally with his seven 40-plus yard receptions and 16th with 10 30-plus yard catches. Despite missing two-and-a-half games, led the Sun Belt with 10 touchdown receptions and by averaging 79.6 yards per game

Holmes finished her career as one of the top rebounders in Troy's Division I history. In just 57 career games, Holmes ranks second with 8.9 rebounds per game and 10th with 505 total rebounds. She was also named Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year and All-Sun Belt Second Team in 2019
