Baseball Heads to Birmingham for Mid-Week Tilt at Samford

TROY, Alabama – Coming off its fourth straight Sun Belt Conference series victory, the Troy baseball team travels to Samford on Wednesday for a non-conference mid-week tilt. The Trojans head to Joe-Lee Griffin Field looking to avenge a 15-5 loss to the Bulldogs at home last week.

The Trojans (21-19) have moved within a game of first place in the Sun Belt East Division after winning nine of its last 13 league games. However, Troy is still looking to establish some consistency in the mid-week games as the Trojans are just 3-6 in such games on the season.

Head coach Mark Smartt will turn to freshman right-hander Taylor Pridgen (0-0, 7.65) on the bump Wednesday night for his fourth start of the season. In his two previous mid-week starts, Pridgen has combined to allow just five earned runs over nine innings with five strikeouts.

Getting five innings out of Pridgen could prove key to Troy's success as the Trojans are 13-5 this season when the starter records at least 15 outs before turning the ball over to the bullpen. Additionally, Troy is 14-3 when not allowing an opposing home run.

Rigsby Mosley extended his team-leading on-base streak to 31 games over the weekend against App State and continues to lead Troy with a .357 batting average for the season while Dalton Sinquefield is close behind batting at a .348 clip on the year.Â

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Samford enters the mid-week tilt with the fourth longest winning streak in the country has the Bulldogs have won eight straight games and sit 11-1 in the Southern Conference. Brooks Carlson was named the SoCon Player of the Week after batting .562 last week as the Bulldogs defeated Troy and swept a three-game series against UNC Greensboro. Samford is 20-6 at home this season.
