TROY, Ala. – Troy baseball will step out of conference play for a single midweek matchup with in-state foe Alabama at Sewell-Thomas Stadium in Tuscaloosa Tuesday at 6 p.m.; the game will be broadcast live on SEC Network+.
Â
The Trojans (13-14) were finally able to pick up timely hits on their way to taking two-of-three from Louisiana in Sun Belt play over the weekend. Troy took game one in walk-off fashion and used a quick start in game two to clinch the series.
Â
Junior Dalton Sinquefield continued tearing the cover off the ball, recording multiple hits in all three games of the series – and now, in nine straight conference games. Preseason All-American Drew Frederic's bat came alive in game two, going 3-for-3 with two walks, a homer and three runs scored to pace the Trojans offense.
Â
On the mound Tuesday night Troy will turn to junior southpaw Max Newton (1-3, 5.30) for the start. Newton fanned four and scattered just one hit in four innings of work against the Crimson Tide in the two teams' lone meeting of 2018.
Â
SCOUTING THE TIDE
Alabama (20-9) won 16 of its first 18 ballgames of 2019, one of the more impressive non-conference records in the country, before sputtering in its first three SEC series. The Crimson Tide dropped two of three to both No. 8 Ole Miss and No. 9 Arkansas, before being swept by No. 15 Florida this past weekend.
Â
Statistically, Kolby Robinson leads the club and ranks ninth in the SEC with a .370 batting average on the season; while the team as a whole comes in at third in the country with a .983 fielding percentage and fourth nationally with 173 bases on balls.
