TROY, Alabama – Leanna Johnson dazzled in the circle pitching her fourth shutout of the season to power Troy past North Alabama, 2-0, in a midweek in-state showdown Wednesday afternoon at the Troy Softball Complex.
Â
Johnson (14-5), backed by the Trojan defense, scattered two hits and recorded four strikeouts to earn her fourth shutout win of the season. North Alabama's (15-10) only two base runners of the game came from hits in the second and fifth inning.
Â
"I thought we had really good pitching and defense today," head coach Beth Mullins said. "Leanna did a great job of spinning the ball and hitting spots, and we made some good plays behind her. I'm excited to get back out to practice tomorrow to prepare for three big conference games this weekend."
Â
The game stayed scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning when Katie Webb put the ball in play to score Talia Truitt who led the off the inning with an infield single.
Â
Troy (22-13) added another run in the bottom of the fifth inning when Allie Miller, who pinch ran for Kelly Horne after leading off with a walk, scored from second on a throwing error by the catcher.
Â
Michelle Moore (2-2) suffered the loss for North Alabama after allowing two runs off of three hits and two walks.
Â
Troy is back in action of Friday against UTA. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. at the Troy Softball Complex.
