Troy Downs UT Arlington in Extra Innings

TROY, Alabama – Kaylee Hussey smashed a walk-off double in the bottom of the eighth inning to give Troy the extra innings win over UT Arlington in game one of the Sun Belt Conference series Friday afternoon at the Troy Softball Complex.
Hussey hit a double to deep left center that scored Madeline Porter, who led off the inning with a single down the third base line, to give Troy (23-13, 6-4 Sun Belt) the extra innings win.
UT Arlington (17-16, 6-4) got on the board first in the top of the first inning when Reagan Wright hit a sacrifice fly that score Whitney Walton who led off with a walk.
Bailey Taylor answered with her fourth long ball of the season that tied the game up in the bottom of the second.
The pitchers dueled through the next five innings of the game with both teams holding each other scoreless to send the game into extra innings.
Leanna Johnson (15-5) and the Trojan defense sat the Mavericks down in order in the top of the eighth to set up Hussey for the walk-off hit. Johnson earned the win after scattering four hits and adding two more strikeouts to her resume.
Randi Phillips (9-9) suffered the loss after allowing eight hits, two walks and a hit by pitch.
Due to the potential of inclement weather on Sunday, Troy and UTA will square off in a doubleheader tomorrow with game of starting at 2 p.m.
