Troy Dominates Incarnate Word, Falls to South Carolina

CLEARWATER, Florida – Kynsley Rae Blasingame's shutout performance combined with Troy's powerful bats led the Trojans to a victory over Incarnate Word, 9-0, after the Trojans fell to No. 13 South Carolina, 10-2, on Saturday at the USF Invitational.
Katie Webb led the offensive push for Troy (15-6) going 3-for-4 with three RBIs on the day. Blasingame earned her first win of the season after scattering three hits in four innings of work.
"I was really proud of the way we bounced back after our loss in the first game," head coach Beth Mullins said. "I am really proud of both Kynsley's and Peyton for throwing a combined shutout today."
Game One: South Carolina 10, Troy 2
In the top of the third inning, Lauren Stewart hit a grand slam to power South Carolina (15-2) over Troy.
Brooke Echols answered with her second home run of the season in the bottom of the fourth to put the Trojans on the board. The homer was Troy's lone run of the game until the bottom of the sixth when Stephanie Snyder hit a double to score Katie Webb who reached on with a walk.
South Carolina added runs in the top of the fifth and sixth inning from hits by Stewart, Cayla Drotar and Kennedy Clark. A solo shot by Mackenzie Boesel in the sixth inning capped off the win for the Gamecocks.
Leanna Johnson (9-2) suffered just her second loss of the season after allowing five hits and recording three strikeouts. Drotar (5-1) picked up the win in the circle after scattering four hits.
Game Two: Troy 9, Incarnate Word 0
Troy shutout Incarnate Word (1-13) in five innings of play to earn its third win of the weekend.
A trio of bases loaded walks after two hit by pitches and a single by Katie Webb gave Troy the lead once and for all in the top of the first inning.
Troy added to its lead in the top of the second inning when Katie Webb singled to right center to score Madelyn Porter.
Singles by Kelly Horne and Hannah Williamson scored two more in the top of the fourth inning. Troy's lead was capped off in the top of the fifth inning with a double by Webb and a sacrifice fly by Stephanie Snyder.

Renee Hoffman (0-5) took the loss for the Cardinals after allowing six hits, six walks and three hit by pitches.
