Troy Falls in Midweek Tilt to Georgia Tech

TROY, Alabama – Georgia Tech's Morgan Bruce and Brooke Barfield tossed a combined two-hitter to down Troy, 5-1, in a Tuesday afternoon midweek tilt at the Troy Softball Complex.
The duo scattered one run, two hits and four walks to power the Yellow Jackets (19-11) past Troy (18-13) after scoring two runs in the top of the first inning off of hits by Katie Krzus, Tricia Awald, and Skye Webb. Barfield (4-1) earned the win for the Yellow Jackets after entering the game in the middle of the fourth inning.
Troy answered in the bottom half of the inning with a single to left center by Kaylee Hussey that scored Katie Webb who walked.
Cameron Stanford added to Georgia Tech's lead in the top of the third after hitting a two-run long ball to right center.
The Yellow Jackets scored their fifth and final run with a double down the left field line by Bailee Zeitler that scored Webb who reached on a fielder's choice.
Annie Willis (5-7) suffered the loss for the Trojans after giving up four runs off five hits, a walk and a hit by pitch. Claire Graves checked into the circle in the top of the fourth inning and only allowed one run, four hits and a walk.
Troy looks to break its five-game slump this weekend with a Sun Belt series at Coastal Carolina. Game one is set for 5 p.m. in Conway, S.C. Friday night.
