Troy Men and Women Take Home First at Doc Anderson Invite

Final Results
Troy, Ala. – Troy track and field completed the Doc Anderson Invitational with winning 18 events and setting 14 personal bests as well as a season best on Friday through Saturday at Troy University.
As a team, Troy women took home gold with 251 points out of seven teams while the men also went home as winners with 357.5 points out of five teams.
Hammer Throw
The first event of the Doc Anderson Invitational was the hammer and senior Helga Volgyi took home gold as she launched a 54.09-meter throw to set the tone for Troy at the invite. Sophomore Naquita Williams followed right behind Volgyi in second place with a personal best 52.57m mark.
For the men, junior Caleb Brown led the way, landing in fourth place after notching a distance of 53.83 meters, his personal record. Junior Austin Snyder also turned in a personal best with a throw of 49.44m, good for fifth place.
Long Jump
Junior JaMeeka Middlebrooks paced the Trojans with a second-place finish, jumping a personal best 5.41 meters. Freshman Brittany Trawick began her outdoor career with a third-place finish after jumping 5.22 meters.
Sophomore Jakyryn Davis took charge for the men, turning in a fourth-place finish with a distance of 6.35 meters.
Javelin
Freshman Nash Rutledge was the sole Trojan competing in the javelin and finished fifth with a distance of 38.92 meters.
100m
Senior Gabrielle Henderson led the way for the women, as she turned in a second-place finish with a time of 11.97, just .13 behind first place. Fellow senior Sydney Wright followed behind Henderson finishing in fourth place with a time or 12.28 seconds.
The men were paced by sophomore Quinest Bishop who finished second out of 19 runners in a personal best time of 10.72 seconds. Right behind Bishop was freshman Kaleb Allen-McDuffie who notched third place in 10.89 seconds.
200m
Henderson finished in sixth out of 39 runners to lead Troy with a time of 25.27. Freshman Maya Kelly crossed the finish line in seventh after clocking a time of 25.28.
Sophomore Amir Harris finished in 21.47 seconds, good for second place out of 24 runners. Juniors Matthew Likely and Casimir Tawiah finished third and fourth respectively with personal record times of 21.57 and 22.19 seconds. Bishop turned in a fifth-place finish with a time of 22.30.
400m
Senior Niata Alexander finished atop 10 runners in with a time of 56.89 while sophomore Precious Ogba notched second placed after clocking a time of 57.80.
Sophomore Jordan McCleskey, junior Harrison Dudley and sophomore Corey Bonner finished second through fourth respectively. McCleskey finished in 49.83 while Dudley was clocked at 49.87 and Bonner finished in 50.06.
800m
Senior Tiarra Bailey won the race in a time of 2:14.62. Freshman Tanner Guest finished her first career 800m race in 2:18.67 good for third place out of 14 runners.
Sophomore Jordan Smith paced the men with a first-place finish in 1:56.33 while senior John Webb finished in second out of 13 runners in 1:58.57. Freshman Isaiah Eller finished his first career 800m race in fourth with a time of 2:04.49.
1500m
Junior Gemma Finch won gold with a time of 4:47.94. Sophomore Christie Caruana notched a second-place finish in a personal best time of 4:50.24. Freshmen Tanner Guest and Caroline Sall respectively finished in third and fourth out of 23 runners with times of 4:51.65 and 4:58.37.
Freshman Blake Vaughn won his first career race with a time of 4:06.91. Senior Brennan Garriques finished in second out of 16 runners in 4:08.42 while junior Daniel Glick notched third place in 4:09.48.
3000m
Sophomore Kara Coulter ran a personal best time of 10:40.48, crossing the finish line in second to pace the Trojans. Sall finished in third with a time of 10:55.52 and junior Michaela Ashley completed the race in fourth place in 11:08.74.
Garriques took home gold with a time of 9:00.58 while Glick finished right behind him in second in 9:00.89. Freshman Black Vaughn finished third (9:09.18) and sophomore Thomas Ward landed in fourth (9:12.32) to round out the Trojan lineup.
100 Hurdles
Junior Alexis Garrett crossed the finish line in first in a time of 14.06 seconds. Junior JaMeeka Middlebrooks set a personal record in completing the race in 14.77, good for fourth place.
110 Hurdles
Tawiah ran home with the gold medal after finishing the race in a person best time of 14.44 seconds while freshman Julian Martin-Rogers finished his first race in third in 14.85.
4x100
Henderson, Alexander, Ogba and senior Sydney Wright finished the relay in 46.63 to take home first place. Sophomore Jared Hayes, Likely, Bishop and sophomore Amir Harris teamed up to also take home the first-place trophy with a time of 40.71 for the men.
4x400
Alexander, Ogba, Finch and Bailey ran away with gold after clocking a relay time of 3:45.01. Bonner, Hayes, Harris and McCleskey notched a first-place finish out of nine teams with a time of 3:19.63.
High Jump
Freshman Genesis Jones served as the sole Trojan in the competition and finished in fifth with a jump of 1.60 meters. Junior Titus Sizemore won the men's high jump with a leap of 2.10 meters.
Triple Jump
Freshmen Brittany Trawick and Amber Gordon respectively jumped into first and second with distances of 11.26 and 11.21 meters. Freshman Jordan Wallace led the way for the Troy men, finishing in third with a distance of 13.75 meters.
Shot Put
Freshman Samara Nelson notched a third-place finish after launching a distance of 13.58 meters.
The four Trojans for the men all finished in the top four out of the nine throwers. Junior Jess Jacobsen led the way taking gold with a distance of 14.89 meters. Snyder followed behind in second place with a distance of 14.20 meters.
Discus
Nelson finished in second out of 12 throwers after throwing a mark of 42.85 meters.
Jacobsen also took gold in this event with a mark of 47.94 meters. Snyder finished in second with a personal best throw of 46.12 meters, more than two meters better than his previous personal record.
Personal Records
In the 1500-meter race, Ashley set her personal best time in 5:01.62. Thompson set her personal record in the 200m race with a time of 26.22.
Season Best
Freshman Robert Edge bested his previous hammer throw with a distance of 43.02 meters.
Quoting Coach Davis
"Both teams showed up to compete this weekend. We wanted a low key meet to start off the season. My message was to win the events we were supposed to win, and then score a ton of points in events we didn't win. I think we accomplished that for sure."
"Our schedule now gets really tough. When I first came to Troy, I said I wanted to get to a point where our schedule was tough week in and week out. From here on out it is tough. We will be more than tested and I am looking forward to seeing how we compete."

In the 1500-meter race, Ashley set her personal best time in 5:01.62. Thompson set her personal record in the 200m race with a time of 26.22.
Season Best
