TROY, Ala. – Troy baseball completed the installation of the high-tech, data-driven TrackMan system to Riddle-Pace Field, head coach Mark Smartt announced Thursday afternoon. Troy is the second team in the Sun Belt to invest in the industry-leading technology, which captures the most comprehensive and accurate ball-tracking data during the game.
TrackMan employs 3D Doppler radar to measure an upwards of total of 27 total pitching and hitting data points. On the mound, pitchers are able to track spin rate, release angle, tilt, and vertical and horizontal break and more. The technology will also be a useful tool for Trojan hitters, capturing data points such as exit speed, launch angle, distance, hang time, point of impact and more.
TrackMan is used for player evaluation and development by all major league and minor league teams in the US, a majority of teams in Japan and Korea, and top NCAA Division I programs.
WHAT THEY'RE SAYING
Head Coach Mark Smartt
"TrackMan is a huge benefit to our program and will impact every phase of player development going forward. We are committed to helping each player improve and this advanced technology will provide in-depth data to aid in that pursuit. I am convinced the investment with TrackMan will make a significant difference in the growth and development of every player in the program."
Assistant Coach Shane Gierke
"TrackMan sends a clear message to future Trojans that we value player development at the highest form. This technology puts us on the cutting edge in our industry and provides a great resource for the future of Troy Baseball."
Pitching Coach Matt Hancock
"This data and technology is going to allow us to dig much deeper than ever before on the player development side. Our pitchers will be able to see a clear picture as to how their pitches work and are presented to hitters. It will also allow us to show them what unique qualities their pitches present so they can attack hitters with a confident plan. Our hitters will learn what areas of the strike zone they can do the most damage from and allow them to understand what style of hitter they really are. We want to have a developmental plan for every player on our roster so they can become the best version of themselves. This data will certainly aid us in that process and ultimately give our players the chance to get the most of it of their skill set."
