DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Troy women's basketball closed out its three-game road swing by getting back into the win column with a 68-62 victory over previously unbeaten Bethune-Cookman. The victory snaps a two-game skid and improves Troy's record to 4-2 on the young season.
The second-quarter proved to be the quarter that helped decide the game as Troy outscored Bethune-Cookman 23-12 in the second frame, giving the Trojans a 13-point advantage, its largest lead of the game. Troy shot 52 percent in the quarter and 38 percent for the game. A majority of Troy's success in the quarter came in the final five minutes as they closed out the half on a 15-4 run, led by Amber Rivers who had five of her game-high 17-points.
Rivers was one of three Trojans to score in double figures as Kayla Robinson scored 15 and Jasmine Robinson added 13 of her own.
Troy's strong second-quarter payed dividends in both the third and fourth quarters as Bethune-Cookman attempted to make a comeback. Bethune-Cookman outscored Troy 21-15 in the third behind Ashanti Hunt who led BCU in scoring with 13 points.
In the final frame Troy's defense was impressive, holding Bethune-Cookman scoreless for the first seven minutes and six seconds of the quarter. That seven minute scoreless stretch was key for Troy, allowing them to hold a lead and force BCU to begin fouling and sending the Trojans to the charity stripe where they went 5-for-8, with all five makes coming in the final 32 seconds and helping to hold off a late 12-7 BCU run and walking away with a 68-62 win.

Quoting Coach Rigby
On defeating undefeated Bethune-Cookman
"This was an undefeated team and an NCAA Tournament team last year, there were so many good things that we did and I am so proud of this team. I hate that the people back home couldn't watch this because you wouldn't have recognized us tonight. We guarded the basketball all game. Everybody we out in guarded hard. We did a great job on defense tonight."
On Rivers' strong game
"I think what sparked her was coming into the game and grabbed a rebound and made a few defensive plays and she got active and her shot was falling."
