HAMPTON, Ga. – The Troy women's cross country team finished in seventh place while the men took eighth place in the 2019 Sun Belt Championships on Saturday at the Nash Farm Battlefield Park.
The women tallied 176 points for a seventh-place finish. Macki Walsh paced the Trojans with a 24th-place finish in 18:27.1. Freshman Cadi Rowe and sophomore Tanner Guest rounded out Troy's top three finishers placing 27th and 30th, respectively.
"The quick pace was definitely something we had to contend with at later stages in the race," head coach Elliot Blount said. "We couldn't quite hold it together on the back end. On the women's side, we don't lose anyone to graduation so we will need to demand much more of ourselves."
On the men's side, a pair of seniors led the way for Troy. Bradley Dixon was the Trojans' highest-finisher for the sixth consecutive race placing 28th in 25:59.6 while Daniel Glick checked in at 34th in 26:10.5.
The men tallied 210 total points for an eighth-place finish out of ten teams.
"This race didn't reflect the momentum the program has built over the past few seasons nor the steady rhythm this team had been in," Blount said. "We will need to take steps in the right direction to get back on track."
