TROY, Ala. – Riding a wave of momentum behind new men's head coach Scott Cross and four 20-win seasons in the last five years by Chanda Rigby's women's squad, Troy Director of Athletics Brent Jones announced Friday that the Trojans have sold a record number of basketball season tickets for 2019-20 season.
"Our fans and community are excited about Troy Basketball, and we couldn't be more thrilled to see the hard work of our teams being recognized by the Trojan Nation," Director of Athletics Brent Jones said. "The last two years we've studied and tried to enhance our fan experience, and the changes we've implemented are showing with record crowds at all our venues. We have already made The Vet one of the most intimidating and exciting football venues in the Sun Belt Conference and now it's time to do the same with Trojan Arena. Scott, Chanda and their staffs played major roles in this season ticket push and their hard work, along with that of our ticketing, marketing and communications staff should be commended. We look forward to seeing our fans at Trojan Arena all season long."
Troy's basketball season ticket sales are up 93 percent from last season and almost 10,000 fans have packed Trojan Arena for the first three games of the season.
The men's opener against UAB saw the second-largest crowd in Trojan Arena history as 5,010 fans packed the stands.
"I am extremely excited about Troy selling the most basketball season tickets in school history," Cross said. "It has been a true team effort from top to bottom and this success exemplifies what #OneTROY is all about; all of our staff members working together to help Troy Athletics become the most successful Group of Five athletic program in the country! This is a huge step towards building a winner that everyone can be proud of here at Troy. I am so thankful to have the opportunity to work with so many talented, hardworking individuals that are all motivated to help Troy be the best program in the Sun Belt and the country."
Two nights earlier, a Trojan Arena women's record crowd of 2,539 witnessed the Trojans defeat Fort Valley State ,101-52.
"Our entire program is about striving to break records and when we saw the amount of season tickets that were sold, we were amazed," Rigby said. "We are so appreciative of every fan that has bought season tickets and that are still going to buy them. It means a lot to both our athletes and our staff to know that we have so much support from the community both in Troy and the surrounding areas. Trojan Arena is a state-of-the-art facility and we strive to put a product on the court that resembles our amazing facility so our fans can experience it all firsthand."
Fans can still purchase season tickets for both programs beginning at just $50 for general admission seats.
The women are back at home Saturday to play host to Jacksonville State and the men return home Monday to face Carver College.
