Trojans Hit the Road for Clash at Indiana

TROY, Ala. – The Troy Trojans men's basketball program hits the road for the first time in 2019-20 heading to Bloomington to face the Indiana Hoosiers. Tip-off from historic Assembly Hall is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT. The Trojans are making their first trip to the Hoosier state since 1997.
LAST TIME OUT- (Troy, 0-2):
Troy enters Saturday's matchup at IU looking for its first victory of the season. On Tuesday night, the Trojans dropped a tough 74-68 matchup against Chattanooga. In that game, the Trojans started the game out strong opening up a 14-point first half lead. The Troy advantage was 12 at the break, but the Mocs used a 16-7 run to cut the Trojan lead to five early in the second period. A Nick Stampley jumper with 12:46 remaining in the game gave Troy a 10-point lead but another Chattanooga run (10-1) cut the Troy lead to just one with 7:12 left. The Mocs used one last 12-2 run to take a 72-63 lead with 21 seconds remaining, a lead they wouldn't relinquish.
The Trojans shot just 6-19 (31.6 percent) from the free throw line for the game and went 5-14 from the line in the second half. Sophomore Zay Williams enjoyed a career night, contributing 18 points and eight rebounds. Ty Gordon added seven points, five rebounds and eight assists, while Darian Adams dropped 14 points, hitting four of seven 3-point attempts.
LAST TIME OUT- (Indiana, 3-0)
The Indiana Hoosiers enter Saturday's matchup with a perfect 3-0 record this season. In the midst of an eight-game homestand to open the year, Indiana has defeated Western Illinois (98-65), Portland State (85-74) and North Alabama (91-65). In the North Alabama game, former Mr. Indiana Basketball and McDonald's All-American Trayce Jackson-Davis scored 20 points and added eight rebounds, shooting a near perfect 14-15 from the free throw line in just 21 minutes of action. Jackson-Davis was the first IU player since Eric Gordon (2007) to make 14 free throws. For the game, four Hoosiers reached double-figures as Indiana converted on 37-45 free throw attempts.
On the season, IU is averaging 91.3 points-per-game and have attempted 100 free throws in three games. The Hoosiers are outscoring opponents by nearly 24 points-per-game and have four players averaging in double-figures led by Aljami Durham (16.7 PPG) and Justin Smith (14.3 PPG). On the defensive end, IU is holding opponents below 40 percent from the field and have forced nearly 15 turnovers per-game.

• Troy and Indiana are meeting for the first time in program history.
• Troy is 2-23 all-time against power five opponents. The Trojans last defeated a power five opponent on Nov. 9, 2012 in the Trojan Arena debut. In that game, Troy defeated Mississippi State, 56-53. The Trojans last P5 road victory was Dec. 4, 2009 at Auburn (81-77).
• The Trojans are visiting the state of Indiana for the fourth time in program history and the first time since 1997.
• The Trojans are 1-2 all-time in Indiana. Troy defeated Valparaiso 72-69 in overtime back on Feb. 24, 1997.
• After opening the season with a pair of games at Trojan Arena, Troy will hit the road for four of the next five games.
• Following Saturday's matchup at IU, the Trojans welcome Carver College Monday before beginning a three-game road swing at Texas A&M (Nov. 20), Samford (Nov. 23) and Alabama A&M (Nov. 25).

One to Watch
Junior Ty Gordon has been Troy's best distributor of the basketball so far this season. The Mississippi native has dished out 12 assists and has turned the ball over just three times in his 48 minutes of action. In the opener, Gordon scored 18 points, shooting four of seven from deep. On Tuesday the guard scored seven points, recorded eight assists and grabbed five boards. His 6.0 assists-per-game is currently tied for the best mark in the Sun Belt Conference.
