BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Troy Trojans men's basketball program dropped a 100-62 contest to the Indiana Hoosiers Saturday night in historic Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall despite a career-best 28-points (11-19 FG), eight rebounds and three blocks from sophomore Zay Williams.
Senior Charles Norman added 10 points, six rebounds and three steals, while Atakan Sahinkaya added five points and 10 rebounds in a career-high 23 minutes.
The Trojans (0-3) were hurt by a 40-13 first half outburst by the Hoosiers (4-0) that pushed the home side to a 28-point lead, the largest lead of the first half.
Junior Justin Smith led IU with 22 points, while former McDonalds All-American Trayce Jackson-Davis added 17 points and 14 rebounds.
The suffocating Indiana defense held the Trojans to just 10-26 from the field in the first half and forced 12 Trojan turnovers. On the offensive end, Indiana shot 20-35 (58 percent) in the first half.
Troy did respond in the second half, using a brief 7-0 run to cut the Indiana lead to 84-50 behind a strong sequence from Williams and KJ Simon. For the game the Trojans assisted on 13 of 20 made baskets.

HEAD COACH SCOTT CROSS:
"Indiana is a very good basketball team and they play really fast. They had a significant size and athleticism advantage over our team which can be overcome with heart, toughness and grit. Our guys tonight didn't bring enough of that, especially in the first half. On a positive note, AK (Sahinkaya) got an opportunity and made the most of it tonight. He was definitely without a doubt the toughest guy on the floor on both team. When I put him in the game was a little bit closer, so he was a spark for us. With AK and Nick Stampley, I think we have two guys that will give us the grit and toughness we need on the wing. We just need to have a few of our guys step up and match the level and ability that Stamp and AK are bringing. If we're not going to be tough or gritty we wont accomplish our goals."
On Zay Williams' performance:
"Zay looked like he belonged playing at this level tonight. He was fantastic for us and makes us a better team. We brought him off the bench tonight, which I thought he responded well to. He didn't complain or pout about not starting and picked up right where he left off."
