Statesboro, Ga. – Troy dropped its first Sun Belt match of the season Friday night at Georgia Southern. The Trojans got off to a strong start after taking set one, but ultimately fell 3-1 (25-20, 22-25, 18-25, 24-26) to the Eagles.
Three Trojans finished the match with double-doubles as Cheyenne Hayes (15 K/11 DIG), Ashley Guenveur (13 K/18 DIG) and Amara Anderson (41 AS/11 DIG) all posted big numbers. Lacey Jeffcoat added 17 digs at libero for Troy.
Hayes registered three aces for the Trojans while Jeffcoat and Natalie Hummel each added two.
"We learned a tough lesson tonight," head coach Josh Lauer said. "Playing on the road is tough and maintaining our composure and confidence when the competitive pressure is high is something we need to continue to get better at. We will look to bounce back tomorrow as we will be tested again by a good Georgia State team."
