Cross Country Treks to Oxford for JSU Foothills Invitational

TROY, Ala. – Coming off a two-week break, the Troy men's and women's cross country team head to Oxford, Ala., to compete at the 14th Annual JSU Foothills Invitational on Saturday. The men return to action at 8 a.m. in an 8K trek before the women's 8K race begins at 9 a.m.
"We got some solid sessions in over the past two weeks off from competition," head coach Elliot Blount said. "With two meets before conference championships, we need to race with a sense of urgency."
The men return the same seven runners from two weeks ago at the Mountain Dew Invite including Bradley Dixon who led the Trojans with a 43rd finish. Freshmen James Brake and Silas Franklin rounded out Troy's top three their last time out placing 55th and 72nd, respectively.
"It's important that our men translate good training onto this rather tame course," Blount said. "After this weekend, the course, not just the distance, is something this young group will have to contend with."
On the women's side, Blount will send out an eight-runner lineup that features their top two finishers from the Mountain Dew Invite. Freshman Cadi Rowe led Troy with a 24th-place finish while Macki Walsh also landed in the top 30 with a 29th-place finish.
"Our women will see a conference foe in Georgia State," Blount said. "Their coach does a great job of preparing his team. Every year, they are in the top four in the Sun Belt."
