Men's Tennis Finishes Day One of ITA Regional

TROY, Ala. – Troy's men's tennis completed the first day of competition at the ITA Southern Regional, with Oskar Michalek advancing to the finals of the qualifying singles draw.

On Thursday the Trojans had four singles players taking the courts in the first round of the qualifying draw. The big opening round win for Troy came from Michalek, with his two-set victory over Michael Durham from Auburn. Christopher Tasker matched up with Ole Miss' Jan Soren Hain while Carles Anton faced off against Tomas Descarrega of LSU in the first round. The two Trojans kept their matches close before falling in straight sets. Javier Llinares drew Spencer Gray of Auburn in his first-round match. After falling in the first set he battled back to take set two. In the third and final set Llinares narrowly fell, 6-4.

In his second-round match Michalek took on Karlo Kajin of Louisiana. Michalek and Kajin kept trading points in their first set before Michalek was able to gain control and win 7-5. After dropping the second set Michalek found the rhythm he established in set one to cruise to a 6-2 third set win. With the win Michalek advances to Saturday's qualifying singles match.

Up Next
Michalek will be taking on Sebastian Rios of Ole Miss at 11 a.m. for a chance to advance to the singles main draw on Saturday. Following the conclusion of singles, the first-round of double will begin.
