Live Scoring
Kiawah Island, S.C. – Troy sophomore Nicole Lorup fired a 7-under 65 in Monday's second round of the Palmetto Intercollegiate on the Turtle Point Course at the Kiawah Island Golf and Country Club. Lorup's round established a new Troy school record, a tournament record and a women's course record at Turtle Point.
Lorup, who is in sole possession of first place, played a mistake free round with seven birdies, 12 pars and no bogeys. She opened with a birdie on No. 1 and made the turn at 3-under after birdies on five and six. Lourp quickly ran her card towards the record book with back-to-back birdies after the turn and then followed with two more on the 13th and 14th.
The previous record was held by Fátima Fernandez Cáno who carded a 6-under 65 at the 3M Jaguar Intercollegiate back in 2015 on a par-71 course.
"She's been knocking on the door of doing something special for a long time," head coach Randy Keck said. "Today, she just got out of her own way and went off. She wasn't even close to making a bogey all day, and her ball striking was absolutely amazing. It was pretty awesome to watch."
Troy shot 3-under as a team in the round to climb a spot into a tie for third place. However, the Trojans erased an 8-shot deficit from day one leader North Florida, and Troy is now just a shot behind Coastal Carolina and Fresno State for the lead – North Florida is tied with the Trojans in third.
Elisabeth Preus traded four birdies for four bogeys and finished even on the day for her third straight round at or below par; she is tied for 11th place. Anna Claire Little put together another solid round with a pair of birdies en route to even par and a tie for 20th place.
ShaeLee Scarberry is tied for 48th place at 6-over through two rounds after a 4-over on Tuesday and Judith Castro is tied for 96th place.
"Just like any other sport, if you don't finish the deal, you go home disappointed," Keck said. "The only way we're going to be truly excited and thrilled is if we win. The future is bright for this program and to have a chance to win for the second time in a week shows that we're a pretty good team, how good is yet to be seen."
Troy will play for its second team title in less than a week Tuesday beginning at 7:30 a.m. The Trojans will be paired in a foursome with Coastal Carolina, Fresno State and North Florida.
