TROY, Ala. – Less than a week after picking up its first win of the season, the Troy women's golf team is back on the course with a three-day stop at the Kiawah Golf and Country Club for the Palmetto Intercollegiate Sunday thru Tuesday.
The Trojans won the Chris Banister Golf Classic for the third straight time with a 5-shot advantage over Murray State in the event which wrapped play on Tuesday. Four Trojans finished in the top 10 of the event led by a third-place performance from freshman Elisabeth Preus.
"It is exciting to get to play again right after a win," head coach Randy Keck said. "We made some late mistakes in the last round but all minor things that can be corrected. We've got a young team and we're definitely moving in the right direction. This is a ball strikers' course which will require a lot of good tee shots and good iron play, which is right up our alley."
Preus, who was playing as an individual in Troy's win, finished 2-over and sits second on the year for the Trojans with a 73.67 stroke average. Nicole Lorup leads Troy with a 73.33 average on the year and is one of two Trojans to have all her rounds count towards the team score.
ShaeLee Scarberry played two of her three rounds at the Chris Banister within a stroke of par and enters the Palmetto Intercollegiate with a 74.33 stroke average on the year. Judith Castro joins Lorup as the only two Trojans to have all six rounds count on the team card and to place in the top 25 of both events this year; Castro carries a 74.50 average into the week. Anna Claire Little (75.50) will make her third appearance of the year after tying for seventh in the season opener.
