Final Results
KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – Nicole Lorup shot a 2-under 70 in Tuesday's final round of the Palmetto Intercollegiate and finished with a school and tournament record 9-under to claim the individual title; Troy's first since the 2015-16 season.
Lorup's 207 total established a new Troy 54-hole record besting Fátima Fernández Cano's previous record of 208 at the Samford Intercollegiate in 2016.
She played each half of the course at 1-under in the final round for her third round under par of the season. Lorup carded three birdies on the front nine, including back-to-back on the eighth and ninth. Just a sophomore, Lorup made it four birdies over a six-hole stretch with another set of back-to-back birdies on No. 12 and No. 13.
The win was the first since Cano won five times during the 2015-16 season. Lorup led the field playing the par-4 holes at 5-under and tied for second with 14 birdies.
Troy finished sixth in the 21-team field at 14-over par after struggling a little bit in the final round. College of Charleston won the team title by one shot over Coastal Carolina, while Old Dominion, Fresno State and North Florida rounded out the top five.
The Trojans finished with 43 birdies over the three rounds as a team, which was fourth best in the field.
Elisabeth Preus and Anna Claire Little tied for 39th place at 6-over for the week. Little added three birdies on Tuesday and shot 4-over while Preus shot 7-over for the round. ShaeLee Scarberry tied for 80th after a round of 12-over Tuesday and Judith Castro tied for 93rd.
Troy continues its fall schedule with a trip to the McCabe Golf Course on Oct. 28-29 for the TSU Town and Country hosted by Tennessee State.
