Incredible Comeback Leads Troy to Win at Coastal Carolina

CONWAY, South Carolina – Troy erased a 17-point deficit in four minutes to surge ahead and take its Sun Belt Conference opener, 82-81, at the HTC Center on Thursday.
The Trojans (10-2, 1-0 SBC) outscored CCU, 35-17, in the fourth quarter and shot 67 percent (14-21) from the field over the final 10 minutes, while the Chanticleers (8-4, 0-1) were just 2-for-9 shooting over a crucial 5:23 span.
Trailing, 64-47, heading into the final quarter, things looked bleak for the Trojans, who were shooing just 28.7 percent (16-66) from the field. After the teams traded baskets to open the frame, Troy scored the next 19 points to claim its first lead of the game. Coastal Carolina retook the lead briefly after a 3-pointer from Torrie Cash, but the Trojans continued to pile up the points scoring on all but five possessions in the final five minutes of play.
Troy shot 66.7 percent (14-21) from the field in the fourth and were 3-fo-5 from 3-point range.
Japonica James led the charge scoring eight of her 12 points in the fourth period. Jasmine Robinson was 5-of-9 with a pair of 3-pointers to finish tied with James as the team's high scorer.
Troy missed its first 14 field goals until Jasmine Robinson knocked down a three with 2:22 remaining in the first quarter. The Trojans trailed by 15 at the end of the first quarter, its largest deficit to open a game since trailing by 17 at Florida State to open the season.
The win marked the second time this season Troy overcame a 17-point deficit to win a game. The Trojans trailed Sam Houston State, 31-14, in the second quarter before winning the contest, 84-79.
Shaterrika O'Neal knocked down three triples to finish with 11 points while Kayla Robinson added 10. Kate Rodgers collected a team-best 13 rebounds.
CCU's Caitlin Roche led all scorers with 19 points and Alise Davis had a game-high 14 rebounds.
