Kate Rodgers capped a 6-0 second quarter run for Troy pushing the lead to 33-25, while the defense held the Mountaineers to just 2-of-11 shooting in the quarter and didn't allow a field goal over the final 5:43 of the half.
The Trojans got off to a hot start in the third quarter knocking down six of their first seven shots expanding the lead to as many as 14 before Appalachian State came roaring back.
Pre Stanley's jumper with 8:06 remaining in the game cut the Troy lead to four, 60-56, but Japonica James responded with a basket and from there the Trojan offense took over.
