Cross Country Travels to Oxford on Saturday

Troy, Ala. – Coming off a two-week break, the Troy men's and women's cross country teams will be back in action Saturday as both teams will compete at the 13th Annual JSU Foothills Invitational in Oxford, Ala. The men's seven-kilometer race is set to begin at 8 a.m., with the women following with a 5K race slated for 9 a.m. at the Choccolocco Sports Complex.

Troy will send six men to Oxford led by senior Bradley Dixon who will put on the Troy uniform for the first time this season. Austin Gray will serve as the lone junior making the trip. Sophomore duo Delaney Moore and Thomas Ward alongside freshmen Isaiah Eller and Blake Vaughn will round out the Trojans competing.Â

The women will also send six athletes to compete with junior Jenna Oden running as the sole upperclassmen. Sophomore Macki Walsh will make the trip back to Oxford, finishing eighth in the 5k race in her last appearance there at the JSU Struts Season Opener. Closing out the women is a quartet of freshmen in Tanner Guest, Caroline Franklin, Sydney Singletary and Katie Smith. Smith will put on the Troy uniform for the first time this season.Â

Among the Division I teams competing against the Trojans are Alabama State, Jacksonville State, Lipscomb, North Alabama and Samford.Â

Last Time Out
Both teams competed at the Azalea City Classic on Sept. 7 in Mobile, Ala., and both teams finished in second place. Senior Brackin Stewart paced the men's team by winning the eight-kilometer race in 26:32.9 which was 16 seconds faster than second place. The women were paced by freshman Caroline Sall who crossed the finish line in fourth place with a time of 19:28.6.Â

Stewart Honored by Sun Belt
After winning his second race of the season, Stewart garnered Sun Belt Conference Men's Runner of the Week on Sept. 12. Prior to winning the 8k race at the Azalea City Classic, Stewart began the season by winning the 5k race at the JSU Struts Season Opener with a personal record time of 15:33.30. Stewart is the first cross country athlete under head coach Elliott Blount's tenure to earn the accolade and the first Trojan athlete to do so since then-junior Tim Bulger received the honor on Sept. 25, 2013.Â
