Troy Falls to Coastal Carolina

TROY, Alabama – Troy got a goal from sophomore Grace Mirly late in the first half, but the Trojans fell, 2-1, to Coastal Carolina in Sun Belt Conference action on Sunday at the Troy Soccer Complex.

After a fairly defensive start, the Chanticleers took the lead in the 22ndminute on a penalty goal by Lauren Drabner. It was the fourth penalty goal allowed by the Trojans this season.

Troy (2-9-1, 1-2 SBC) pulled level with just 30 second remaining in the first half. With the first half clock ticking down, Karina Valeriano took a shot from 25 yards out that hit the crossbar and fell in the path of Mirly crashing the box. The sophomore, who is also a member of the Troy softball team, tapped it past the keeper for her first career goal.

Coastal Carolina (4-4-1, 3-0) pulled ahead for good in the 53rdwhen Hannah Miller collected a cross in the box, turned on her defender and beat the keeper into the bottom corner.

Goalkeeper Haleigh Mercer hauled in five saves in the loss.
