Troy Rallies to Tie, Falls Late at Georgia State
9/30/2018 2:38:00 PM | Soccer
ATLANTA – After a defensive first half, Troy and Georgia State combined to score five goals over the final 41 minutes with the Panthers pulling out a 3-2 victory at the GSU Soccer Field on Sunday.
Kendra Cashion pulled the Trojans level in the 83rdminute scoring on a free kick, but less than three minutes later, GSU answered on a free kick of their own to take the lead for good.
Trailing 2-0, Ally Bayer headed in her second goal of the season in the 64thminute. Natalie Melillo earned the assist, her fourth of the season. The goal came just two minutes after Georgia State (3-9-2, 1-4 SBC) scored its second goal after a long pass led to a 1v1 with Troy goalkeeper Acelya Aydogmus.
Troy (2-10-1, 1-3) got 10 saves from Aydogmus and put seven shots on target, but were peppered by a GSU offense, which seemed to be clicking all day. The Panthers finished with 23 shots, 15 on frame.
Brooke Shank got Georgia State on the board in the 49thminute converting a penalty kick, the fifth against the Trojans this season.
UP NEXT
Troy will play just one match next week, it comes on the road at Georgia Southern on Friday.
