TROY, Ala. – Following a successful opening tournament, the Troy women's golf team heads to Vail, Colo., for the Golfweek Challenge at Red Sky Ranch Monday thru Wednesday.
"I'm cautiously optimistic," head coach Randy Keck said. "We played really well in Oklahoma to open the season but were disappointed that we didn't win the event. We were probably the best team there and should have won but didn't get off to a good start and didn't play well enough to win. We are playing some really good golf right now and have some firepower."
The Trojans finished third at The Lady Maxwell behind five top-25 individual finishes and a pair of top-10 performances from Nicole Lorup and Bianca Lohbauer. Lorup, a true freshman, opened her career with a 2-under 69 and finished at 3-over for the event to place third, while Lohbauer shot 7-over and placed sixth.
"We are really deep in our lineup and I think we are taking five kids who can shoot under par," Keck said. "It's mountain golf and the air is light. We'll have to make adjustments from a fitness level and ball flight standpoint."
Keck will also turn to seniors Lindsey Harrison and Sarah Harrison who placed 12thand 18th, respectively, in the season opener, while sophomore Judith Casto rounds out the five-woman lineup after playing as an individual, and placing 11th, in the opener.
The Field
Virginia Tech, SMU, Jacksonville, TCU, Sacramento State, Campbell, Nebraska, UC Riverside, Delaware, Southern Mississippi, San Diego State, UCLA, Georgia, East Tennessee St, Central Arkansas, Denver, Troy and Pepperdine
T-Time
Troy will play the opening round in threesomes along with Virginia Tech and Sacramento State. The first parings will go off hole No. 10 beginning at 11 a.m. (CT).
